NUCCA Care and Children: Answering Your Questions (Audio)

September 12th, 2010

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Another school year has started in North America, and children are headed back to class.

Part of the “back to school ritual” for many students is the routine physical at their medical doctor’s office. While many parents may think about the health of their child’s lungs, heart, or if they are sick often–they’re immune system–most parents don’t often consider the health of their child’s spine. Or how the health of that spine may be related to the health of their child.

But just like adults, children can face an upper cervical spinal misalignment that impacts their health. A misalignment can happen at birth, tumbling as a toddler, playing sports in middle school, or while putting dent in the family car as a teenager. Wherever kids get knocked down, take a tumble, or are under physical stress the atlas can be affected.

Dr. Robert Brooks of Tulsa, Oklahoma answers all of the common parent questions about NUCCA Chiropractic care and children, including:

  • How old do you have to be to receive NUCCA care?
  • How do misalingments happen?
  • What about children and x-rays?

Neurology of the Upper Cervical Spine: NUCCA Conference Preview

August 13th, 2010

The amount of information we now hold about neurology has virtually exploded over recent years.

Dr. Heidi Grant

We have learned more about the human nervous system over the past 5 years than over the past 50.

Join Dr. Heidi Grant, MSc(A), DC, DACNB, FACFN in a review of the brain stem, both of its anatomy and neurology. We will also discuss the neurological pathways responsible for the changes seen with blood pressure, and we will explore the clinical relevance to NUCCA, including myths and fallacies.

Neurology is often seen as a heavy subject, but we will use a novel, fun approach to learn neurological principles and have a greater appreciation for how the NUCCA correction impacts the human body. Please bring coloured pencils/pens and paper, and be prepared to draw!

Back to School Physicals Should Include a Chiropractic Visit

July 30th, 2010

24 different vertebrae stacked like chairs. Joints that glide and rotate. Trillions of nerve fibers. Doesn’t your child’s spine deserve as much attention as her ears?

It’s physical time. That means kids everywhere are having physicians look in their throats, their ears, and listening to their hearts.

But when was the last time a doctor examined your child’s posture? Or assessed the health of his spine? If all she’s gotten is the “once over” check for spinal scoliosis, then maybe it’s time for her to get checked again.
