Join Dr. Heidi Grant, MSc(A), DC, DACNB, FACFN in a review of the brain stem, both of its anatomy and neurology. We will also discuss the neurological pathways responsible for the changes seen with blood pressure, and we will explore the clinical relevance to NUCCA, including myths and fallacies.

Neurology is often seen as a heavy subject, but we will use a novel, fun approach to learn neurological principles and have a greater appreciation for how the NUCCA correction impacts the human body. Please bring coloured pencils/pens and paper, and be prepared to draw!

From its inception NUCCA has been interested in the global health effects of the Atlas Subluxation, especially the role the upper cervical spine plays in postural distortion. One of the organization’s first research projects was to see if a reliable measurement of postural distortion could be devised with the patient in a standing position. This led to the creation and patenting of the Anatometer, the Anatometer II, and the Anatometer, Jr. Significantly, NUCCA has found that improved balance in the upper cervical spine is reflected in improved balance in standing body posture as measured by pelvic height and pelvic rotation, and an improvement in a right or left spinal list, if one is present.

Said simply a good adjustment would lead to better posture, and less body distortion.

The NUCCA evaluation of posture often offers a critical point of intersection between the NUCCA doctor and other providers, including orthopedists, physical therapists, movement therapists, athletic trainers, and massage therapists. The Atlas Subluxation Complex has clinical significance not just for the chiropractor, but for anyone concerned with human well being, and excellence in human performance.

Perhaps one of the most well-known non-chiropractic practitioners to acknowledge the importance of the upper cervical spine is Paul Chek, founder of the C.H.E.K. (Corrective Holistic Exercise Kinesiology) Institute. Paul is licensed as a Holistic Health Practitioner (California) and is a Certified Neuromuscular Therapist and Clinical Exercise Specialist (ACE). His unique approach of examining the body as a unified system when approaching health and performance issues has earned him audiences across the world. Paul has this to say about NUCCA and human performance:

“For those of you wanting to facilitate a complete recovery of any patient, friend, relative, or even yourself, I strongly suggest an evaluation by a NUCCA doctor. Until you have a fully functional upper cervical spine, your rehabilitation program is far from complete!”

~ Paul Chek, MSS, HHP NMT – Founder, C.H.E.K Institute

NUCCA is proud to welcome Paul Chek, MSS, HHP, NMT as our keynote speaker at the Fall 2010 NUCCA Conference.
